  • Christina Bramante

    President International Carbon Black Association

    Christina Bramante is the director of product support and toxicology at Cabot Corporation. She is also the president of the International Carbon Black Association. 

    The ICBA is a scientific, non-profit founded to sponsor, conduct and participate in investigations, research and analyses relating to the health, safety and environmental aspects of the production and use of carbon black. 

  • Jose Briones

    Marketing Manager Orion Engineered Carbons

     Jose Briones, Ph.D., has joined Orion Engineered Carbons as marketing manager for the Rubber Carbon Black segment. Dr. Briones has more than 20 years of commercial and technical experience in the specialty chemicals and materials; oil and gas services; manufacturing; and technology industries. He has led the development and commercialization of more than 40 new products in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. He has been named as inventor in seven patents. Briones’s extensive rubber industry experience includes manufacturing and R&D of styrene-butadiene rubber polymers, commercialization and R&D of natural rubber for adhesive and allergy-free applications, and managing a custom manufacturing facility for reinforced rubber assemblies used in oil and gas and agricultural belting applications. Briones earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Clemson University in Clemson, SC, and his MBA at the Wharton Business School in Philadelphia, PA

  • William Bussing

    Director Global Raw Material Purchasing Cabot Corporation

    With Cabot Corporation for five years, William Bussing is the director of global raw material purchasing. As the commercial leader for the global carbon black industry leader, William is responsible for $1.5b pa of primary raw material and natural gas purchasing for this specialty chemicals business. He maintains supplier relationships and negotiates raw material contracts across four continents. Manages a global organization of 25 professionals supporting this function. 

  • Dr. Katrina Cornish

    Professor and Researcher The Ohio State University

    Katrina Cornish is the Endowed Chair in Bio-based Emergent Materials at The Ohio State University at Wooster. Dr. Cornish is an expert in alternative natural rubber production, properties and products and on natural rubber biosynthesis in general. Her research focuses on bio-emergent materials including exploitation of opportunity feedstocks from agriculture and food processing wastes for value-added products and biofuels.

    Dr. Cornish will hold a joint appointment with the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science and the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering. In her new position, Cornish will lead a multidisciplinary team in the creation of innovative industrial materials from plant-based sources and associated biological, chemical and physical processes. She will also be charged with training new scientists and engineers for the emerging global bio-based economy. She will be based on the Wooster campus of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) – which is the research arm of CFAES and the largest university agricultural bioscience research facility in the United States.

  • Dr. Ingo Ehmann

    Director Carbon Black Technology Ekström & Son

    Dr. Ingo Ehmann graduate as mechanical engineer at the Technical University of Darmstadt.  In 1991 he received his doctoral degree in material science at the German Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology in Frankfurt.  Since then he has spent most of his career with the development of stainless steel applications for the process industry.  In 1994 he joined Edmeston AB as Business Area Manager of radiant heat recovery systems.  Since 2006 he has concentrated his activities in the area of marketing and sales cooperating with Ekstrom & Son with particular emphasis on combustion air preheaters for carbon black.

  • Vince Guercio

    President CTC International

    Vince Guercio has a chemical engineering degree and over 50 years experience in the international petrochemical, petroleum and natural gas businesses.  For the past 40 years, he has been an independent consultant providing commercial and technical advice about the interactions that occur at the refinery/LPG/petrochemical interfaces.  He specializes in the utilization of steam cracker byproducts such as butadiene, C5s and carbon black oil (CBO).  Due to his ethylene byproduct experience, in 1982 Vince became heavily involved in carbon black feedstock from naphtha crackers, FCCs and coal tar.  Since then, he has offered consulting services in the pricing, marketing, evaluation and acquisition of CBO.  Since 1988, he has published the CBO MONITOR which provides reliable market intelligence about worldwide CBO and carbon black.  Vince was educated by Catholic University of America, Princeton University and the U.S. Army.  His corporate experience includes Mobil Oil, Lummus and Foster Wheeler.     

  • Thomas Hanel

    Head of Materials Development Pirelli Tyre SpA

    Thomas Hanel is an Executive with over 15 years of experience in the field of materials within the tire industry. Thomas Hanel started his employment career in 1997 at Pirelli Reifenwerke in Germany. Prior taking over the responsibility for the Material Development in Pirelli Germany in 2001, several positions within Pirelli Germany had been entrusted to him with increasing responsibility, in the Industrial and Research & Development area, but always in the field of Materials and Material Processes. Within the years of 2001–2003 he was representing Pirelli as member of the board council of the German rubber association DKT. Since January 2012 Thomas Hanel took over the global responsibility for Material Innovation, within R&D – Material Development area, in the Headquarter of Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. in Milan. He holds a graduate engineer in Polymer and Rubber Technology, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Machine Building and a Dr. phil. in Strategic Management.

  • Greg Homoki

    Managing Director SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK (formerly ALSTOM)

    Greg Homoki is currently the managing director at SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK (formerly ALSTOM / American Schack Co.).  

    As a 30+ year veteran in the design and supply of waste heat recovery systems, Greg has been extensively involved in five conferences devoted to energy recovery in the carbon black industry, designed heat exchangers for fluid bed, reheat and multiple hearth furnaces, as well as waste heat boilers for industrial applications. He is also the author of numerous papers on industrial heat recovery and was a contributor to the WEF Manual of Practice: Sludge Incineration: Thermal Destruction of Residues.

  • Paul Ita

    Principal Notch Consulting, Inc.

    Paul Ita runs Notch Consulting, a Massachusetts-based research company dedicated to the market research needs of the global specialty chemicals industry. Mr. Ita focuses on raw materials for the global tire and rubber industries, with a particular focus on carbon black, silica, and rubber chemicals. Through Notch, he publishes the Carbon Black World Data Book and the Carbon Black Quarterly Newsletter.

    Michael Jacobsson is a business and product development manager at Sid Richardson. In this role, Michael leads Sid Richardson Carbon and Energy’s business and product development efforts. These efforts include increasing revenue streams from disruptive technology opportunities and opportunities outside core business operations. Michal also designs new business products that he helps bring to market through oversight of manufacturing operations at two production facilities.

  • Bill Jones

    Bill Jones is President of Sid Richardson Carbon & Energy Co.

    Bill’s experience includes nine years with Phillips Petroleum, thirteen years with Columbian Chemicals, and nine years with Sid Richardson in fields related to carbon black engineering, manufacturing and executive management.  His career has included living assignments in Mexico, United Kingdom, Thailand, Philippines, Canada, and the U.S. with working assignments in carbon black plants all over the world.  

    In twelve years with Sid Richardson, Bill has led a strategic initiative to modernize the three carbon plants in the U.S. and to change SRCE into a world-class manufacturing company with a long-term, productive future.

    That initiative focuses on energy reduction, environmental improvement, lower production costs, more diverse product portfolio, and maximizing returns for the owners of the company.

    Patrik Karrberg is the director of marketing and sales at Ekström & Son. 

    Ekström & Son is one of Northern Europe's leading firms in engineering, manufacturing, and servicing of heat exchangers and pressure vessels for the process industry.

    Focused on high quality since 1896, Ekström & Son is based in Kristianstad Sweden and provides tailor made process equipment such as heaters, coolers, evaporators, condensers, columns, and reactor vessels to industries such as carbon black.

  • Bruce Lambillotte

    General Manager – Akron Labs Smithers Rapra

    As General Manager of the Akron Laboratories, Mr. Lambillotte is responsible for analytical and physical properties testing areas of Smithers Rapra, NA. In addition, he also serves as Smithers Rapra's Senior Technical Consultant, responsible for product and process-specific technical consulting activities involving polymer products. These activities include performance analyses, formula reconstructions, failure mode analyses and product development.

    Prior to joining Smithers Rapra, Inc., Mr. Lambillotte was employed by Continental General Tire Inc. in various product development areas. He has worked in the rubber industry for 41 years. He holds a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry and an MBA from the University of Akron.

  • Nigel Longshaw

    Area Sales Manager DSF Refractories

    Nigel Longshaw joins DSF from Ceram where, for the last 11 years, he had commercial responsibility for their materials consultancy. Much of his time was spent growing Cerams business in the glass, petrochemical and cement industries, working closely with many of DSF's key clients.

    Nigel has a ceramics background, starting his commercial career selling industrial minerals for Tilcon Industrial Minerals before working for both Schott Glass and Monax Glass. He will predominantly cover part of DSF's European market including the key areas of France and Italy. 

  • Ricky Magee

    Director of Rubber Carbon Black, Technical Service and Quality Assurance Birla Carbon (Columbian Chemicals)

    Ricky Magee is the Director of Rubber Carbon Black Technical Service and Quality Systems for rubber carbon black at Birla Carbon (Columbian Chemicals).  In this role, he is responsible for interfacing with rubber carbon black customers to develop technical solutions to enhance product performance and to work with manufacturing sites to ensure world-class quality products.  The Aditya Birla Group is the largest producer of carbon black in the world.

    Magee’s career has focused on the management of analytical and material science laboratories. He spent more than 25 years in Columbian’s global technology laboratory, which provides material science, analytical and applications information in support of product development, quality assurance and technical service for rubber and industrial carbon blacks.

    In 1984, the year he completed his M.S. in chemistry at Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, La., where he also earned a B.S. in chemistry, Magee became a chemist at Columbian Chemicals Co. in the firm’s research and development center. He was promoted to laboratory manager of Columbian’s colloidal and oil laboratories in 1998, was named director of analytical services with responsibility for supporting technical services, research and development, and quality assurance activities in 2000, and became director of Columbian’s global technology laboratory in 2008. He assumed his current role in 2010.

    Magee is actively involved in ASTM where he is serving on the 2010 – 2012 Board of Directors.  He is also the chair of Committee D24 on Carbon Black and Subcommittee D24.41 on Carbon Black Nomenclature and Terminology. For his work in several D24 groups, Magee received the Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow in 2008, and in 2000, Committee D24 honored him with a Distinguished Service Award.


  • Carl McAfee

    Founder McAfee Consulting

    Carl is the founder of McAfee Consulting LLC and McAfee Consulting Labs LLC, the consulting firms behind the professional technical, chemical and analytical servicesof prochemist.com. Before starting his own business, Carl worked as a technical director at Chase Elastomer Corporation and a project leader at The Dow Chemical Company. In addition, during his student years, Carl did work in the areas of analytical techniques (all), nuclear chemistry, mass spectrometry, field ion microscopy, time-of-flight mass spectrometry and atomic absorption analyses of precious metals. Carl's areas of specialty include analytical chemistry, polymer science, photochemistry and designed experiments.

  • Dr. Robert McCunney

    Doctor MIT and ICBA

    Dr. Robert J. McCunney is an internist who is board certified in occupational and environmental medicine. He evaluates and treats occupational and environmental illnesses in the Pulmonary Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is also research scientist at MIT in the Department of Biological Engineering, where he co-teaches a course and participates in epidemiological studies on occupational and environmental health hazards. Dr. McCunney is also a member of the clinical faculty at Harvard Medical School.

    Dr. McCunney received his BS in chemical engineering from Drexel University, his MS in environmental health from the University of Minnesota, his MD from the Thomas Jefferson University Medical School and his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed training in internal medicine at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago. His previous positions include being Director of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Boston University Medical Center and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    Dr. McCunney is past president of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). He has edited 5 occupational and environmental medicine textbooks and has published over 100 articles and book chapters. He is the Editor of all three editions of the textbook, A Practical Approach to Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

    For the past 20 years, Dr. McCunney has served as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) of the International Carbon Black Association. He is here today to discuss the role of the SAG in addressing potential health implications of exposure to carbon black and the current state of affairs regarding the research studies conducted to address these concerns.

    C.P. Natarajan graduated with M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Madras, India & University of Pittsburgh, USA. He joined American Schack Company (ALSTOM Power Energy Recovery) and developed High Temperature Air Preheaters & Energy Recovery Systems. He organized Schack Carbon Black Conferences in USA (1996, 1998, and 2000).

    After 28 years of service, he retired as President of ALSTOM Power Energy Recovery, USA in 2001 and started GANPADS, providing consulting services on Industrial Energy Recovery & Emissions Abatement (Carbon Black production & Petroleum Coke Calcination)

    From the first Carbon Black world conference in 1993, Natarajan has made many presentations at Carbon Black World, Carbon Black Asia Pacific and Carbon Black China conferences. In 2003, Carbon Black Asia Pacific presented him with LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. 

  • Leszek Nikiel

    Manager of Fort Worth Research Center Sid Richardson Carbon and Energy

    Leszen Nikiel, PhD, is the manager of the Fort Worth Research Center for Sid Richardson Carbon and Energy. 

    In this role, he helps to develop a basic understanding of carbon black and how it interacts with elastomers to improve end-use performance. Additionally, he leads teams to develop new grades of carbon black, provide timely and effective quality control testing, develop improved test methods to more accurately guide the production process and predict end-use performance.

  • Shane Perl

    Principal The Alpen Group

    Shane Perlis the founder and principal at the Alpen Group. Before forming the consulting group, he worked at Cabot as the director of strategic sourcing. Previous to that he focused on chemicals with Management Engineers and BASF.

Previously, Shana worked as corporate strategy manager, global commercial manager, and more at Cabot.

  • François Terrade


    A Chemical Engineer from Bordeaux France (ENSCPB), Francois Terrade has acquired nearly 37 years a huge knowledge of the Carbon Black Manufacturing.

    Working for Phillips Petroleum, Continental Carbon, Deutsch Degussa, Columbian Chemicals and Cabot Corporation, he met most of the existing technologies.

    From 1995-96 he had his own Consultancy business, with core business in the Total Quality Management Field in Germany, PQM™ support non licensed Carbon Black manufacturer as well as the Tire Recycling Business.

    In 1997 he returned to the Carbon Black manufacturing until 2011.

    In 2011 he founded PRO2ACT MANAGEMENT™ near Paris (France).

    Mssr. Terrade has been coaching more than 150 Carbon Black engineers & operators worldwide in 2012-2013 for several Key players in the Industry and their Raw Material suppliers (coal tar).

    In the Tire Pyrolysis Industry he has engaged himself in helping key players in finishing their product on a similar way to the regular historical Carbon Black Industry.
